If you’re in the mood for irreverent humor and serious ideas in an anti-hate satire, this month’s movie club selection may be for you. “Jojo Rabbit” was nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Picture and won the People’s Choice Award at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival.

Critics Consensus: The critics were in such opposition, we thought we should present the extremes from both sides. From Adam Graham, Detroit News, “Jojo Rabbit” is a smart, accessible, inclusive film that opens doors at a time when many are slamming them shut. It’s a celebration of the gift of life that’s inviting you to dance with it. So, dance with it. From Peter Bradshaw of the Guardian, “A pointless Hitler-spoofy YA adventure with a 12A certificate, obtusely accentuating little-kid cuteness and optimism amid the quaintly imagined non-horror.

Summary: Writer director Taika Waititi (THOR: RAGNAROK, HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE), brings his signature style of humor and pathos to his latest film, JOJO RABBIT, a World War II satire that follows a lonely German boy (Roman Griffin Davis as Jojo) whose world view is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a young Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in their attic. Aided only by his idiotic imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler (Taika Waititi), Jojo must confront his blind nationalism.
