St John’s Adult Choir

The St. John’s Unitarian Universalist Church Adult Choir sings three of four Sundays each month from early September to mid-June. Our music amplifies and complements the sermon and enhances the worship experience. Rehearsals are Thursday nights from 7:15 – 9:30 and Sunday mornings before the service.

“Without music life would be a mistake.”—Friedrich Nietzsch

“Qui bene cantat bis orat” (They who sing pray twice.)—St. Augustine

Music and singing are integral parts of our Unitarian Universalist (UU) worship services. Whether it’s classical, rock, folk, or a cappella, music shifts the energy of worship and moves it into our bodies.

St. John’s choir, April 2019, with music director Michael Pekel, accompanist Peng Cheng He and Rev. Mitra Jafarzadeh.

The choir’s work is both a gift to the worshiping community and a leadership experience as they invite the congregation to share in the music of the church.

In this choral community, we have fun, we work hard, and together we make good music happen. We are serious in our music making and are unafraid to take risks. We find joy in singing a varied and challenging repertoire that includes classical music from the Medieval to Contemporary style periods, and music from diverse traditions. Whenever we can, we make connections with the many talented artists from in and around Cincinnati.
