St. John’s is committed to acts of racial justice and building community through the arts.  This is the second of a three-concert 2016-2017 music series for people to meet new neighbors and hear the voices of justice through the jazz idiom.

The United States and Brazil share parallel histories historically, sociologically and musically, says DeGreg. Both countries were colonized by Europeans, decimated indigenous populations, and instituted slave trades to prosper economically. But they also developed unique musical universes of styles that grew from the synthesis of African and European influences.  Throughout their histories the music from the United States and Brazil have cross-pollinated, and both have become vastly influential globally. The program will present some of the Brazilian repertoire and styles and demonstrate their fusion with American jazz.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and can be purchased in advance online, or at the door on the night of each performance.
