Now that the “Play” part of Principles & Play has launched during First Hour, it is time to start exploring our Seven Principles. The Seven Principles are part of the covenant of the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, as adopted in 1985 and modified in 1995 and officially titled The Principles and Purposes.

Here at St John’s, we will start by introducing the concept of the principles as a whole during First Hour on Sunday, January 26. Thereafter on the second and fourth Sundays from February through May,we will focus on a particular principle. Instead of starting with principle one as you might expect, we will follow a countdown process, beginning with Principle Seven on Sunday, February 9.
We invite everyone to consider joining in a lively discussion about what our Seven Principles mean; that is what do they look like in your life? How does it feel when the Principles are put into practice in our community? So, whether you’ve been aboard the St. John’s UU boat for years or just starting to set sail, you are welcome to listen, learn, reflect and share.
Adult groups will meet in Jefferson, ages 3-6 in Rosa Parks and ages 6-10 in Lincoln. Middle schoolers will meet in Haehnle upstairs in the main hallway. Alicia Rosselot, Phyliss Flanagan and Bill Gordon will lead the children and youth groups. According to responsible staffing guidelines, we need to have another adult in the room for each of the children’s groups. During the fall, we made do with two teachers by keeping all the children together in Rosa Parks. Feedback indicated that separating the children into a couple groups is preferred by both children and teachers.
