Religious Freedom

At St. John’s, we celebrate religious freedom. It is part of our Unitarian heritage dating back to the earliest days of the Unitarian church in Transylvania. On January 13th we will observe 452 years since the great debates in Torda, Transylvania, that resulted in the Edict of Torda, a declaration of religious tolerance. Join us on this special Sunday when guest speaker Rev. Bela-Botond Jakabhazi reminds us of the complexities and necessity of religious freedom. Rev. Jakabhazi is the settled minister of Nyárádgálfalva and had previously served as interim minister of our partner church, Nyárádszentlaszló, in the Transylvania region of Romania.
