Community Fair November 9

Everyone is invited to talk with leaders of social groups, teams, and committees after the service. This is your opportunity to learn about different groups and decide if you might want to be part of one.

Leaders, you MUST let Nancy Henry know if you want a table set up for this event. Then you and your group might want to offer a snack to entice people to talk with you. You also might want a flyer for people to take. This is your chance to add some new folks to your group.

The Fair will be fun and informative. Come One! Come All!

Soup and Bread lunch November 2 after church
Come and eat prior to the special Board Meeting. The food is always GOOD!!

Also, on November 2 Saving Our Democracy — Men’s Group
Potluck + Program at church

48 hours before election day, Democratic party activist Tony Potochnik and retired political science professor Howard Tolley will offer strategies for effectively responding to the devastating assault on our democratic institutions. For the 6 pm potluck, in addition to bringing food to share, all those dining should also bring their own dish ware, utensils and beverage.  Walk ins welcome for the 7 pm program as well as for dinner.

LAFS November Get Together will be at Meritage, 40 Village Square in Glendale on November 14 at 6pm.  Please let Anne Septic know by Tuesday 11/11 if you would like to attend.

Circle Suppers are Back!

Circle Suppers are the beloved St. John’s tradition of potluck dinners in our homes.

Step 1: Folks sign up to be hosts.  The host picks the date, time, and number of guests.  When you get your guest list, you reach out to tell whom to bring what.  Hosts often provide the main dish and drinks, but it’s your dinner, you do you!

Step 2: People sign up for which dinner they want to attend.

Step 3: Eat and be merry!

If you would like to host a dinner, contact Mary Lynne Schuster at marylynne7@gmail.com.   You can just let me know you’re a host for now.  Soon I will need to know the date of your dinner (pick a date that works for you between February 1 and May 31, 2026), how many guests, and your address.   Last year, we had 12 dinners with 92 guests.   Everyone had so much fun!

Found House Returns
In mid-November, St. John’s will again host four unhoused Found House/IHN families. Keeping the families safe and well-fed as they shelter in our church home takes a village–the Village of Us!

Whether your talent is cooking, crafting, making toddlers laugh, setting up pack-n-plays, making beds, or waking up by 6 a.m., you are invited to join our practice of radical hospitality. Some tasks can be done ahead on your own schedule. Families with kids are encouraged to participate!

Stop by the Found House table in the lobby to learn how you can become part of this congregation-wide program.  -Wanda Crawford for The Found House Team.

Lady Kate Quilting Designs Boutique

Kate Spencer’s quilts will be adorning our lobby walls since this month. On Sunday, Nov. 30, you’ll have an opportunity to greet the artist–and even do some holiday shopping, because Kate will join us for coffee hour, offering some of her smaller, more affordable items for immediate sale. These will include the tote bags and mini “Haiku” quiltlets on display on the pegboard, all hand-crafted and one of a kind, as well as mugs and magnets printed with some of Kate’s original designs. More relaxed than Black Friday sales.

Flowers for the Church Service

If you would like to donate flowers, and then take them home after service, please sign up on the large clipboard hanging on the bulletin board on the right side of the office. The suggested donation is $40.
