Learn & Grow Together, Nov. 16-30, 2021

New to St. John’s?

Join other newcomers to get to know each other, the church, and our shared tradition. Rev. Mitra is facilitating a three-session introduction to each other, St. John’s and Unitarian Universalism. The third and final monthly Sunday afternoon meeting, 12:30-2 p.m. Nov. 21, in Krolfifer Hall, masked except for eating. Lunch will be served. Please RSVP to programming@stjohnsuu.org
so we can plan for lunch.

This meeting will briefly introduce us to the history, theology, and service traditions of Unitarianism, Universalism, and Unitarian Universalism. We will also touch on important programs at our church that connect us to the larger UU world like Green Sanctuary, UU Service Committee and other international aspects of our faith including the Partner Church Program and UUs at the UN.

If you have questions, please reach out to Pat Brown of the membership team, or programming@stjohnsuu.org

We will start with a film as a source of inspiration for our discussion. You are welcome to watch “Mission: Joy” on your own or in community at church. In either case, it is important to register via the film link. Church access to the link is contingent upon individual registrations. It is important to the funders of independent films to track the number of viewers.

“Deeply moving and laugh-out-loud funny, ‘Mission: Joy’ is a documentary with unprecedented access to the unlikely friendship of two international icons who transcend religion: His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Tutu. In their final joint mission, these self-described mischievous brothers give a master class in how to create joy in a world that was never easy for them. They offer neuroscience-backed wisdom to help each of us live with more joy, despite circumstances.”

Walking Group Friday, Nov. 19

Our next shared walk will be at noon, Friday, Nov. 19.

Alms Park, Brook Trail – 710 Tusculum Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45226 (Columbia Tusculum); trail map
Park in the parking lot in front of The Pavilion, we’ll gather there; the trail is accessible from the parking lot.

Brook Trail crosses and parallels Ault Park Brook, a stream populated by frogs, salamanders, crayfish, aquatic worms and insects. The rocks on the stream bottom consist primarily of pieces of limestone, the bedrock of the Cincinnati region. However, there are also some rounded, non-limestone rocks that a continental glacier carried into the area about 250,000 years ago.

We will walk to the end of the trail and back (a total of 1.06 miles).

Please email programming@stjohnsuu.org if you would like to receive updates about the changing locations of walks and cancellations/delays due to inclement weather.
