Learn, Grow and Be Together, November

Lunch next Sunday, November 1

Soup and Bread Lunches to Support our Partner Church in Nyárádszentlászló are back. The date is Sunday, after church, Nov. 1.

We still need volunteers to bring soup, desserts, bread, and to assist with set-up & cleanup. Contact Edie Holder if you are able to assist.

Kitchen Clean-out

Items that have been left in the kitchen will be available for pick-up in Krolfifer over the next few weeks. Please remove and take home any of your personal items by Sunday, Nov. 8. (It is helpful returning items to their owners if you label your serving dishes and containers with your name.)

Also, to ensure the freshness of any food intended for coffee hour, please label your treats with a date.

Art Gallery in Haehnle Hall this month: Featured Artist: Kate Spencer

For the fifth year in a row, she will be displaying her art quilts in the gallery from Nov 7-Jan 3, in a show titled “Light in the Darkness.”

In addition, she will participate in the three boutique Sundays in December (6, 13, 20) offering a variety of smaller items for sale (notably, handmade quilted Christmas ornaments and sturdy canvas tote bags with quilted panels) and miniature quilted panels (under 15″ x 15″) in Christmas designs available for immediate removal.

An Artist’s Reception will be on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 3-5 PM in the fellowship hall, to which any congregation members are welcome.
Men’s Group Meeting, Sunday, Nov. 1, 6 pm, potluck dinner, 7 pm program. All men are welcome.

John Kachuba will lead a discussion about “How Different Religions View Death and Afterlife,” based on the book by the same name and edited by Johnson and McGee. We’ll delve into questions such as:

Do all religions believe in an afterlife?
How do they vary and how are they dissimilar?
What do you, as a UU believe about an afterlife?
Has your view changed over the years?

It will be a fun and stimulating discussion; all men are welcome.

Our Flower Power Auction is Nov. 14! small flower graphic

It’s less than 3 weeks to St. John’s Auction, our FUN fundraiser – Saturday, Nov. 14. Check-in begins at 4:30; we’ll be done before 8 p.m.

What will you offer or donate – a gathering, a service, tickets, gift cards, gift baskets? This year’s theme is Flower Power.

You can pre-register at the Together Auction website or at our table which will be outside the sanctuary the next two Sundays – $10 if you register ahead, $12 at the door. It helps when you pre-register so that we know how much food to prepare.

There is lots more information at the church website stjohnsuu.org/auction/.

The LetUs Sing-ers are looking for new members.

This is our children’s choir, and the name does not refer to a vegetable. Rather it comes from the song “Let Us Sing Together, One and All a Joyous Song,” which could also be our mission statement. Rehearsals are from 10:15-10:45 in Rosa Parks classroom downstairs. We are looking for new members. Any child age 4 and up may join. We sing in church services throughout the year. Contact Edie Holder with any questions.

Tabletop Day, Friday, Nov. 20, from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (drop in any time)

A get-together to build up our safe, caring community while engaging in hobbies, including: crossword puzzles, word searches, jigsaw puzzles, crocheting, knitting, drawing, coloring, boardgames and more.

Please think about a tabletop-friendly hobby that you enjoy and bring some items to engage in the hobby either to show others or to interact with them.  You are also welcome to bring food and/or beverage to share.

Also, if you would like to receive a text when there are upcoming gatherings, please contact Pete Asman to let him know.
