Learn, Grow & Be Together Fall 2026

The LetUs Sing-ers return. children singing

This is our children’s choir. The name does not refer to a vegetable, rather it comes from the song “Let Us Sing Together, One and All a Joyous Song,” which could also be our mission statement. Our first rehearsal will be on Sunday, September 20, from 10:15-10:45 in Rosa Parks classroom downstairs. We are looking for new members. Any child age 4 and up may join. We sing in church services throughout the year. Contact Edie Holder with any questions.

Choir Is Back

choirIf you’ve been thinking about singing with us, please come any Thursday at 7 p.m. for rehearsal. Come share in the singing and the fun!

Stephen has graciously agreed to stay through Oct. 11. You’ll have an opportunity to thank Stephen, our wonderful pianist/accompanist/composer, after church on Oct. 11, at a celebratory coffee hour.

MEN’S GROUP RETREAT:  FINDING PURPOSE IN LATER YEARS

First Unitarian will host the St. John’s Men’s Group on Saturday, October 3, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm with a bring your own lunch retreat open to all UU men, but designed by Cliff Shisler and Howard Tolley for those over 50.

There will be TaiChi/QiGong, small group discussions, reflections on the group’s 40-year history by its founding elders, and consideration of proposals for the coming year and beyond.  RSVP to Howard to sign up.

Karen & FrankCelebration of life for Karen Miller

St. Johns will host a Celebration of Life for Karen on Saturday, September 19, at 1 p.m.

The congregation lost Karen M. Miller on April 13 to MSA (Multiple System Atrophy), a rare, progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects movement and the autonomic nervous system. Until her disease advanced, she was a very active church member. She served on the Board twice, led several committees, co-founded a gaming group, and hosted many gourmet dinners, and mentored teens through a youth group, Coming of Age program, and the Our Whole Lives comprehensive sexuality education program. She lived a life filled with curiosity, love, openness, and the pursuit of passions, big and small. For more information, here is her obituary.

Pill Bottle Collection Returns

Nancy Henry has taken over the pill bottle collection at church.pill bottles

Please follow these new guidelines.

1. Over the counter bottles (vitamins and other supplements) can and should be placed into your curbside recycling bins.

2. Bring any kind of Rx bottles (green, blue, amber) to church and place them in the box found in a corner of Krolfifer. These will be taken to the Recycling and Reuse Hub where they are sorted for recycling or reuse. If they are acceptable for reuse, they will be sanitized by Hub volunteers and then taken to Matthew 25 Ministries. You do NOT need to remove sticky labels, but if the label peels off easily, please do that.

Monthly Minister Brown Bag Lunch

Come join Rev. Karen for a monthly brown bag on the second Tuesday of each month in Krolfifer Hall. All are welcome, no agenda, just conversation.

The next one is Tuesday, Oct. 13, at noon.

Coffee Hour Cleanupyard helpers

We’re looking for volunteers to help Jeff clean up after coffee hour! It’s a quick and easy way to contribute, taking only about 45 to 60 minutes after the Sunday service.

If you’re able to help, please sign up on the sheet near Krolfifer Fellowship Hall. If you’re new to this, Jeff will be happy to guide you through the process.
