Fun with “The 12 Days of Christmas”

If you’ve been at church on the right Sunday in Decembers past, you know that we numbered the printed orders of service 1-12. Then, we sang “The 12 Days of Christmas,” with everyone who was assigned the same number singing and acting out their corresponding day’s gift together. It has become a tradition full of holiday mirth.

Just because we can’t be in the same space doesn’t mean we can’t sing “The 12 Days of Christmas” in a fun style, but we need to recreate the silliness through home recordings.

We hope households will embrace holiday fun by recording one of the 12 days in the song. We encourage visual zaniness. (Who wants to be a turtle dove?) Costumes or props are welcome, but not necessary.

Pengcheng has selected this version for us. This will make sure all participants will have the same key and pace. The first folks to reply have a choice of which day they want to sing! (The 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th and 11th days have already been claimed.)

We’ll do a Zoom chat to share more specific instructions. The instructions can also be emailed to you. Essentially, you will be asked to sing every intro phrase: “On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me,”  “On the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me.” You will hum along with the numbers that are not assigned to you, and then enthusiastically sing/act out your verse each time it comes around.

We’ll need to have everyone recorded by Dec. 14 in order to edit it for the Dec. 20 service.  Are you in?

If so, please go to this page and fill out the form below.

Thanks!

Kate, Pengcheng and Claire
