Reaching Out While Staying In

by Tom Darner

If you’re feeling locked in, just think about those Americans who are actually locked in.  The UU Church of the Larger Fellowship (CLF) has a letter-writing ministry that allows UU’s on the outside to communicate and support UUs in prisons.  If you’re having extra time on your hands, consider signing up for this worthwhile program.  Become a Pen Pal and

  1. Correspond with a fellow UU who lives in a United States prison,
  2. Bring a message of hope and make a big impact in someone’s life,
  3. Be one  of hundreds of free-world pen pals who are at the heart of the CLF  Prison Ministry
  4. Get the support you need for this safe, easy and rewarding letter writing ministry
  5. And it only requires a small time commitment.

What are the requirements for participation?

  1. You must be at least 21 years old,
  2. You must be a member of the CLF or another UU congregation for at least 6 months,
  3. You must affirm you have not been arrested, incarcerated, or on parole or probation in the prior 12 months, and
  4. You must read and agree to the established guidelines.
