St John UU has volunteered to help with the new family at the asylum living space at Clifton United Methodist Church (CUMC) for the week of November 17 to 23.  The family arrived on October 30 by Greyhound bus.  (Below is information we know on the family at this time).

St. John UU is a member of The Sanctuary Congregation Coalition of Cincinnati and we are a solidarity congregation.  Volunteers from St. John’s assisted with the remodeling of space at CUMC into living space for a family and donated items.

Background on the family.

The family is from the Congo.  Family consists of the father (Pepe), mother (Tatina) and three year old daughter (Regina). There are 11 year old twins still in the Congo; Blessing and Joyce.  The father’s occupation is some type of engineer and the mother’s occupation is nurse.  The family got to the US through South America and Central America arriving in El Paso, TX, June 19, 2019.  They have legal Parole Asylum in the US.

Our commitment for the week of November 17 to 23.

-Donate $200.00 to help with pantry groceries, incidental expenses, legal fees… (We had a split the plate offering that will take care of this amount).

-Transport the family for weekly grocery shopping and donate funds for the groceries.

-Transport the family to appointments for the week.

-Each congregation will furnish a French translator.

-Plan and support family in one social event during the week worked out in consultation with the family.  (Ideas for social events could be a trip to the library, Zoo, church activity or any outing you think would be fun, we are open to ideas).

Please contact Amy Monson if you would like to assist with the family or with ideas for social events. Amy Monson-amymagdic@gmail.com.  Please relate your available schedule for the week and interests.

Thank you for your commitment to helping this family!
