Outreach Grants Awarded during 2007

During 2007, the Outreach Committee received 15 grant applications. The Committee proposed and the Board approved these four Outreach Grants during the 2007-2008 church year.

The Family Nurturing Center provides "Kids On The Block" child abuse education and awareness program. Their 8 page coloring book/activity guides are distributed to children in Kindergarten through grade 3 to supplement presentations about child abuse. St. John's award of $1500 will buy about 7500 booklets. The sponsor is Diane Antestenis.

The Freestore Foodbank runs a "Food for Kids BackPack Program" to supplement food deprivation on weekends. Bags contain approximately 9-12 single serving, kid friendly products. St. John's award of $1500 will purchase 500 BackPacks. The sponsor is Curt Miller.

Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly is committed to relieving isolation and loneliness among the elderly. Their "Third Thursday" nursing home program transports elders to their Colerain Avenue office to enjoy a day of crafts, good food and entertainment. St. John's award of $2000 will support 7 months' programs. The sponsor is Carolyn Briese.

Mary Magdalen House supplies clothing and personal care articles to Over-the-Rhine homeless population. St. John's award of $1500 will be used to purchase such items. The sponsor is Ted Chism.

Outreach

St. John’s periodcally sets aside funds to support area non-profits in their community action projects. The competitive awards range form $500 - $2000. Organizations also have an opportunity to explain their work to the congregation and recruit volunteers.
